FHL Cup Final

The FHL Cup Championship Series will be a rematch for the 2016-17 Finals. The Pylons defeated the St. Louis Explorers (who relocated to Kelowna before the start of this 2018-19 season). Wicker Park won that series 4 games to 2. In game #6 of that series, the Explorers erased a 2-0 WPP lead on a pair of Martin Hanzal goals. The game would head into overtime, mostly do to the heroics of Pylon goalie James Reimer. As he turned aside 12 of the 13 shots he faced in the 3rd period. The Explorers carried the play to the Pylons as they would out-shoot Wicker Park 12 – 5 in OT. The Pylons would win the cup when dman Brett Burns scored the GWG @ 12:36 of OT! That gave the Pylons their 3rd FHL Championship 2009-10, 2012-13 & 2016-17. Don’t sleep on the Buckaroos, GM Don MacAlister & Coach Barry Beck have the Buckaroos playing their best hockey in these playoffs. Winger Reilly Smith leads the FHL playoffs with 19 points in 17 games. But Kelowna real strength has been the goaltending duo of Ben Bishop & Ryan Miller! Do they have enough to stop the high-powered Wicker Park offense which is lead by Geno Malkin, Claude Giroux & John Tavares? Should be FUN!

Federal Hockey League

The FHL: 2018-19 is the FHL’s 22nd Season!

The FHL was Established in 1997 and is still going strong heading into the 2018-19 season. The league started with 16 teams with the Minnesota North Stars defeating the Moose Jaw Mayhem 4 games to 3 to win the first FHL cup! The league expanded to 20 teams prior to the 2000-01 season. There would be another expansion entering the 2012-13 season, bringing the league to it’s current 22 team configuration. The FHL Dynasty was the Halifax Raiders, as they rattled off 7 consecutive cups from 1999-00 thru 2005-06.
